The scarab has been a symbol of prosperity, good health and longevity of life going back to ancient Egypt.
Tiffany & Co, the jewelry store, mounted these iridescent favrile glass scarabs in 18kt gold during the early part of the 20th century.
The Tiffany "Blue Book" catalogue of 1911, pages 612 & 613 lists "Tiffany Favrile Beetle Jewelry" mounted in 18kt gold in 12 different items ranging from pendants at $2.50 each to lavalieres at $225 each.
In the 1980's Tiffany & Co. reintroduced a line of antique favrile glass Scarabs that their jewelers set in sterling silver and marketed them as "Tiffany Renaissance" and advertised them in their mail order catalogue.
Below are 2 pictures from their catalogue.
Brooches, Pendants, Earrings, Stickpins, Cuff links, etc. were offered.
The Tiffany mark (signature) was always impressed into the gold. The scarabs themselves were never signed.
Now you can own a part of history and enjoy good health, prosperity and longevity of life by owning one of these prized pieces of art glass.
